History
Azerbaijan had one of the first electrified lines in the Soviet Union, the 33 kilometres from Baku to Sabunchi having been electrified at 1.2kV DC in 1923. It was converted to 1.5kV DC in 1940, and finally in the early 1960's, to the present 3kV DC. The most recent line to be electrified was the line to Djolfa in Iran, which was energised in 1989.
